Fairer pay with more control!

Our business has been created by teachers for teachers. We’ve created an app which gives teachers the control they should have over their working lives, fairer pay to recognise the important role they play and an end to ‘introduction’ fees if they choose to apply for a full time position in one of our link schools.

Hear what our beta testers say

I can honestly say that this will be the biggest stress saver in my day to day running of the school. With a couple of clicks I’m able to book in cover whatever time of the day! It’s nice to know we are getting the best price too!

Supply teacher organiser, Brighton and Hove School

The sign up process was so easy, I’m with a few different agencies and this was by far the most simple. I love that I have my own diary to suit the way I want to work. The pay is competitive and honest.

Brighton and Hove Hive Supply teacher

Really clever App. It will make booking supply so quick and simple. The fact that they are cheaper than anyone else, makes signing up to them a no brainer.

Why become part of the Hive?

  • A user-friendly app to quickly connect schools and teachers
  • Working with Primary and Secondary schools.
  • Supply teachers are paid fairly
  • Manage your own work diary – only work the days you want
  • No ‘finders’ or ‘release’ fees when you want a full-time position
  • Quality CPD to support our teachers and help those who want to find full time positions
  • Hive Supply Teachers donate 10% of their profits to educational charities.

What do I need to sign up?

Download the app and create a teacher profile. The app will inform you of the documentation required which we will check and validate as quickly as possible. Once you are approved, you are free to manage your own work calendar. For example, you can indicate which days you are available/unavailable to work and the distance you are happy to travel to.

When a supply teacher is requested by schools, a notification will be sent to you and you can view the jobs available for each day on a newsfeed. When you find the job that you want, you respond to the request listed and then the schools details will be sent to you.

As well as extremely competitive pay, we will provide incentives and rewards for your loyalty and hard work as well as many opportunities for training to support your professional development.

What documents do I need for vetting checks?

All our teachers will be in line with the latest DfE Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance.
Our checks include:

  • Identity
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Verification of professional qualifications
  • Enhanced DBS and/or overseas police check
  • Barred list check
  • Medical physical and mental disclosure
  • Prohibition from teaching check
  • Disqualification by Association declaration

You can upload all your documents through the App. Our mission is to make this part of the process as simple and quick as possible.
You will not be able to accept work until the vetting checks are complete. This includes your referees, so it is worth making it known to them you are making an application.

What if I get on/don’t get on well at a school?

Schools are able to ‘star’ teachers who have been a good match with their school. They are also able to block teachers if there have been problems. Teachers also have this ability to ‘block’ schools that they have not connected well with, meaning that they will no longer receive notifications from them.

What will I get paid?

You will earn a minimum of £130 for a short term day placement. For long term placements we strive to get you the best possible day pay, which should resemble a main scale pay. We do not take out our on costs from your pay!

What if a school offers me a permanent position?

Then CONGRATULATIONS! We do not charge any ‘finders’ or ‘introduction’ fee, so you are free to take on a permanent position in a school that you have worked in through us. This also makes you far more employable to schools.

Transparent pay

Our aim is to give a fair and transparent pay to all our teachers. We value all our teachers, but understand that they may want to work for multiple agencies hence we support teachers in signing up to umbrella agencies to manage their finances.

Our charges are simple – the school is charged a fixed fee (for example £161 for short term placements), we subtract Employers National Insurance and our admin fee (7% – of which 10% goes to charitable causes) and then the rest is yours. No hidden fees, no surprises. For a breakdown, please take a look at our example pay chart.

Lastly, we DO NOT charge finders/introduction fees (which put potential employers off hiring you) when you want to apply for a full time position at one of our Hive schools.

What do I need to sign up?

Apart from the obvious personal details, we will need;

  • Teacher number (TRN)
  • Details of higher education (University, date of qualification, type of qualification)
  • Employment and teaching practice history in last 5 years
  • References – 2 and must be from education sector either previous employers, university tutors or another agency
  • A clear DBS

Manage your own diary

Through the platform you can manage your own diary – don’t want to work on a Wednesday? – just mark it on your diary and you won’t be notified about any jobs that day. This gives you the control and flexibility, without pressure from recruiters to work days you do not want to.
